Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic after the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now hit 23 total October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment except for him with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.
Toronto's team won the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
