The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
