The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
