The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
