Supporters Urge Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are calling for that a individual who jumped a barricade and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A circulating footage reveals the Australian man shoving aside media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a event pathway accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further message on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded online networks to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part interpretation of the popular stage show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, winning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
