Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Fix the Anime's Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an brand-new film. Instead, the recent film from the Jujutsu Kaisen action franchise acts as a recap of the anime's second season combined with the opening installments of its upcoming season, which begins the Culling Games narrative from the original manga. This makes Execution, which just got a latest teaser, the earliest way to view the commencement of the next season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The film debuts in Japan on Nov. 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Game arc, Top-tier jujutsu user Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is charged by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle occurs for the initial time on the silver screen, and if the animation team at Mappa have a treat as installments 40 and 41 waiting in the wings for viewers this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the surprise that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap" from the second season is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequences in anime history, despite all the controversy in 2023 when the installments originally aired. It was reported that the creators were enduring harsh deadlines to the point, and the released version that was shown at the time was unfinished and supposedly not what the artists initially intended.

The Intense Confrontation

The sequence features a much-hyped confrontation between two powerful sorcerers, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes unique visual techniques, superb cinematography, and intense action. A follow-up physical media version provided an opportunity to add additional scenes to flesh out the conflict. So it seemed possible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, examining the new trailer, it's hard to tell if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a moment so epic has to be seen on the largest display with the best presentation possible.

Season Two Success

The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the top anime of the year, and when the Thunderclap episodes were released back to back, it was the topic of conversation for weeks in the anime community. Fans were aware of the production challenges, which made them appreciate what they viewed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the home release, released on March 18, would include new footage to the sequence or to see if it was polished at all, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside reshades, smoother movement, and altered color palette.

The Film's Potential

But the physical release can only refine what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the movie has the chance to properly present the moment with further changes and freshly created footage.

A Crowning Achievement

At present, these pair of installments represent the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by the studio, particularly given the debate they encountered at the time. It's drawn the focus of viewers all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of next year. If the production company wants to kick off the year perfectly, revisit the anime's greatest sequence once again in movie houses with the finest version we've witnessed to date.
