Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
